A Welcome from the Captain
Michael Wicks
2026: Our Quasquicentennial Year.
Dear Members,
It is a great honour and privilege to welcome you all to the 2026 golfing season as your Club Captain at Teesside Golf Club.
I am truly looking forward to representing our club during this milestone quasquicentennial year. Teesside Golf Club has a proud history built on friendship, sportsmanship, camaraderie, and a shared love of the game. I hope that 2026 will be another enjoyable and memorable year for everyone.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our outgoing Captain, Paul Hutchinson, for his hard work and dedication over the past year. I look forward to working closely with our Executive Committee, staff, and volunteers throughout the season. My Vice Captain, Shaun Schofield, is a highly respected member and an active volunteer within the club. Together, Shaun and I are committed to supporting the club, its members, and all playing teams, while encouraging participation in competitions and social events. We will continue to ensure that our club remains welcoming to members of all ages and abilities.
Please also join me in congratulating Morag Hall on her appointment as Lady Captain, and I wish her every success for the year ahead.
Gary Evans and his team, along with the support of volunteers, presented the course in excellent condition throughout 2025. I am confident this high standard will continue into 2026. We are always grateful for additional volunteers to assist on the course, and anyone interested is encouraged to contact myself or Greens Chairman Peter Scott.
The club’s Executive Committee is here to support you. If you have any questions regarding competitions, course matters, or clubhouse issues, please feel free to contact the relevant committee member. Photographs of the committee are displayed in the main entrance hall should you be unsure whom to approach.
I would also like to thank our club sponsors, whose ongoing support—whether through services, materials, or financial contributions—is vital to the running of the club. If you are aware of any business interested in sponsorship opportunities, please speak to me or our Secretary, Paul Hutchinson.
Our Club Professional, Mike Pilgrim, is a tremendous asset to Teesside Golf Club. Now in his fourth year, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise in coaching, club fitting, and all aspects of the game. His reputation in the area is second to none, and we are fortunate to have him. I would like to thank Mike for his continued efforts behind the scenes in promoting the club, as well as his invaluable role in organising and supporting the Pro-Am. I encourage all members to make use of his services.
Finally, I would like to thank all our members for your continued support. I welcome any suggestions you may have to improve our course or facilities—please feel free to share them with me or any member of the committee. I look forward to playing with a wide range of members throughout the year and hearing your ideas.
Whether you play regularly or simply enjoy the social side of club life, I hope you will feel encouraged to get involved and make the most of everything the club has to offer this season.
During my Captaincy, I am proud to support Red Balloons, a lived-experience charity based in Stockton-on-Tees. The organisation is run by individuals with personal experience of poor mental health, using that insight to support others. Their peer support services are free and open to anyone over the age of 18 who may be struggling. They provide a safe, non-judgemental environment where individuals can talk openly, without pressure. I would like to thank members in advance for supporting the fundraising events planned throughout the year.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Michael Wicks
